How to change your focus and start creating what you want.

19/11/2023

One of my favorite questions is, ‘What do you want?’  So many of us know what we don’t want, i.e., I don’t want to feel bad, I don’t want to worry, I don’t want to have this extra weight, I don’t want to date people who use me.

Knowing what you don’t want is a great starting point, but it won’t get you where you want to be.

When you understand that your mind needs clear, decisive goals and directions, it starts to make sense why you can’t get there when you keep telling your mind what you don’t want.

Let me explain

Imagine you want to be healthier and fitter than you are now, and there’s a pair of jeans you love that you want to slide back into.

But instead of giving your mind clear images of how you feel in this fitter, healthier body, you say to yourself every day, ‘ I feel gross; I do not want to be this weight anymore. I don’t fit into my jeans anymore, my jeans don’t fit, etc.

Your mind has nowhere to go except to stay where you are right now, focusing on the extra weight and the fact that you don’t fit into your jeans anymore.

You’re just telling yourself where you are now, and your mind will do as you describe it and stay precisely where it is.  This is why you’re not seeing the change or feeling motivated.

So, instead, I’m going to encourage you to imagine yourself sliding back into those jeans now with ease. Focus on how you feel when you slide those jeans on, how fit and healthy you feel, and how proud you think of all the hard work you’ve put in to get there.   See yourself looking in the mirror and feeling great.  See yourself walking down the street and feeling toned, fit, and healthy in your jeans.  Grabbing something healthy to eat because you know it’s good for you. Feel proud of your appearance and the work it took to get here.

Imagine the kinds of things you’re going to say to yourself wearing these jeans: I look great, I feel sexy, I feel toned, I feel excited about wearing fitted clothes, I love the way I look and feel in my jeans, I’m proud of myself for all the work it took to get here.

Can you see how focusing on what you DON’T WANT, i.e., the extra weight, holds you back and keeps you where you are right now? Instead, concentrating on what you want, i.e., feeling sexier, fitter, and confident, allows you to visualize and give your mind the precise direction to move you towards what you want.

Visualizing how you want to feel when achieving this goal of a fitted, healthier body gives your mind the precise direction to get your body moving and make significant decisions about food.

The more you focus on what you want and add the feeling you will have when you get there, the harder your mind and body will work with you to get you there.

Visualizing your goal AND how you will FEEL when you achieve your goal is one of the most powerful tools for success in manifesting whatever you want.

TODAYS TAKE AWAY: Focus on what you want, not what you don’t want

Hi, I'm Emma Ritchie

For years, I struggled with low self-worth, self-doubt, and a deep disconnection from who I truly was. I wore the mask, played the roles, and did what I thought I should do—but inside, I felt lost. It wasn’t until I turned inward and began healing the relationship I had with myself that everything changed.

Real transformation starts when you work at the level of your energy, emotions, and mind—because only then can your behaviours shift and your outer world reflect your inner truth.

Today, my greatest passion is helping others do the same. I support people to integrate all parts of themselves—the light, the shadow, the wounds, the wisdom—and to dissolve the layers of judgement, shame, and not-enoughness that keep them small.

When you shift how you relate to yourself, everything begins to align.
You step into confidence, clarity, and calm—inside and out.
You stop waiting for permission and start creating the life you were born to live.
You call back your power.
You remember who you truly are.
